  • POSTPONED – AGM – Friday 25th September 2020 at 7pm

POSTPONED – Due of the new Rule of Six we would be limited to a maximum of six people attending a meeting at Church Hall! In these circumstances there is no alternative but to postpone the AGM to a date to be fixed.

The CVRA AGM will be held at The Church Hall on Friday 25th September at 19:00.

More details will follow in due course, but because of Covid-19 we will, as you will appreciate, have to take precautions.  These have yet to be spelled out in full detail, but numbers will certainly be limited.

Accordingly places at the AGM will be allocated on a “First come, first served” basis – to get a place please email: CVRA2020@EliteMail.Org

In the first instance places will be allocated on a 1 per household basis.  If you want to bring your spouse, partner etc.. please indicate in your response, and we will let you know in due course who has been allocated spaces.  We are reasonably optimistic that two members will be able to attend from each household.

If you have any items you wish to be considered for inclusion on the agenda please email them to the same email address above.

  • Catherington Now and Then – 30th/31st August

    Catherington Now and Then

Sara Schillemore is holding her bi-annual “Catherington Now and Then” display of photos, newspaper articles and information about Catherington, Clanfield and other local villages at Catherington Church Hall again this year.

It’s all a bit different this year though it will, of course, be “Covid19 friendly” so visitors are asked to wear masks and observe the 2 metre distancing rule.

Sara will have a selection have priceless records and registers from local churches on view going back hundreds of years.

The display will be over August Bank Holiday, Sunday 30th and Monday 31st from 10:00 to 16:00. Admission will be £3 with proceeds to the fabric of All Saints’ Church. This year Sara hopes to include Hambledon (if she has enough display boards).

This year as VE Day was remembered in a very subdued way Sara will have a special display of interesting WW2 memorabilia, including specialist equipment used by the Special Operations Executive.

Please do come along, it is fun and you might meet old friends or even discover some relatives that of whom you were unaware!

  • Catherington Village Christmas Tree

    Catherington Village Christmas Tree

CVRA committee decided it would be a good idea to have a village Christmas tree.
It was decided to plant a tree that would last for several years as opposed to buying a sawn off tree each year.
This was not a cheap option… therefore the tree purchased was only five feet tall with a foot of that being under ground!

The actual tree is a Fraser Fir -voted best Christmas tree by Gardeners’ World!
It arrived early one November day – supplied by a Cambridgeshire company who have a good reputation – they supply trees to Prince Charles!
A hole was dug by one handy villager watched by the committee whilst they toasted champagne!

The CVRA Carols were held at the Farmers Inn on Saturday 7th December 2019, with the Salvation Army leading the carols.
Following this the residents walked outside the pub turning left to the strip of grass owned by Mrs Holly Burton where the tree has been planted.
There was a short speech by the Chairman Mr Bruce Graham then the countdown from ten commenced and the lights were turned on.
The tree should grow about a foot a year and will be there for several years.

Our sincere thanks to Mrs Burton for allowing us to plant the tree on her land and to EHDC who via Sara Schillemore  kindly provided a grant for £200.
